TALAVERA is a bit more expensive than the chemically treated mass manufactured dyed & treated clays that are available more cheaply from overseas. Talavera from Mexico only uses natural clays, it is 100% lead free & totally food safe. Talavera items are hand crafted in a process that takes 3 to 4 months and it's a risky business in that a piece can easily break at any time during the process. Out talavera products are also hand painted by skilled Mexican artisans and they go through 2 firings. The finished products are chip resistant, microwaveable, and can be cleaned easily in your dishwashers.
