Guy I got it from says grandfather brought it back from Germany after WW!! ended which I have no way of confirming. Stamped MERCATOR at the base of the blade. AI says they were not a German Army issue but that many soldiers bought their own and carried them. AI says, Lock back mechanism: Reliable and secure for everyday use and says, Origin: Handmade in Solingen, Germany by Otter-Messers. Priced low for a handmade collectible knife because of uncertainties I have. Check with your AI to see what it says to be sure. The knife is roughly 7 7/8 open, 4 1/2" closed.
